New Literature Courses for Middle School Readers

Scholars Online teacher Alexandra Dascalu introduces two new literature courses this fall for Middle School. Readers who are just starting to see what they are reading as literature will be able to examine shorter works from many cultures for overarching concepts, plot and character development in Fairy Tales, Myths, and Folklore culled from the Brothers Grimm, Kipling's Just So Stories, Bulfinch's Mythology, and others. More mature readers will be able develop critical thinking skills needed for high school courses in The Thought Plickens through analysis of classical children's novels like Alice in Wonderland, Swallows and Amazons, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Treasure Island.

Enrollment and Fee Deadlines

It's hard to believe that July is already upon us. Open enrollment for academic year courses continues through 1 September 2017, and full tuition and all fees are due by the start of classes on 5 September 2017, or your student may not be admitted to class. This applies even if you are using the installment option, unless you make arrangements with the accounts manager. While we may accept enrollments and payments after that date for some courses (pending teacher approval), any delays in processing account information could prevent students from being admitted to chat sessions—so please complete registration and enrollment as soon as possible!

Each new student with a paid membership will receive notification of his or her temporary password at the student's registered email address. Please make sure that these notices are not being filtered to junk mail or spam folders.

Moodle Upgrade

We have upgraded the Scholars Online Moodle to the latest version, Moodle 3.3, released in May 2017. We are working on videos and tutorials to help teachers, students, and parents learn to use the new release more effectively, so watch this space!

We've also done a major review and update of the underlying code for the rest of the Scholars Online site to improve security and compliance with the latest PHP software release. Please let the webmistress know if you run into unexpected website behavior!
