A short introduction to the history of science, chemistry, and the experimental method using the lectures given by Michael Faraday at the Royal Institute. Faraday is still widely regarded as one of the greatest experimental scientists of all time. He was the original "Mr. Wizard", and for many years, he would give a series of lectures during the Christmas season "suitable to the juvenal auditory", that is, just for young people. Using his 1861 lectures as a starting point, we will explore some of the basic ideas of atomic theory, properties of solids, liquids, and gases, combustion reactions. and energy, and gain experience using the scientific method of experimentation and writing lab reports.Prerequisites
Curiousity and a lively sense of humor.
