A rigorous introduction to the Old Norse language, with an emphasis on translating passages from Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda. We will also read other selections of Old Icelandic prose and poetry, both in the original language and in translation, in order to gain a wider awareness of the literature and culture.

Prerequisites

Familiarity with basic grammatical terms and concepts is essential, and experience with another foreign language is extremely helpful.
