World History - Junior High

2023-24: Tuesday 4-5:30pm EST

Goals

  • to build a historical framework that the student can build on and refine with future studies
  • to develop habits of critical thought and the evaluation of statements for accuracy and bias
    • to distinguish between conjecture and a well-supported statement or hypothesis,
and to "catch" when the former is effectively presented as the latter
  • to observe the beginnings and development of ideas that influence the student's own life
  • to learn something new about the history of a culture or civilization that the student is less familiar with

Reading Materials

"There are two different ways of writing history: one is to persuade men to virtue and the other is to compel men to truth."
