An advanced course in Greek philosophical authors, including the Gorgias of Plato (entire). It may also be extended to include either some other Plato or selected writings of Aristotle.
* Meetings
This course meets once a week for discussion and review of assigned homework.
* Homework
This is a fairly intensive reading course, and can require a considerable investment in time. I would estimate an hour to an hour and a half a day, though reading speeds may vary.
* Prerequisites
Greek V or permission of instructor
* Recommended background
This course requires sufficient fluency in Attic Greek to read several Stephanus pages per day (the numbered pages by which Plato's dialogues are normally designated — in the case of the Gorgias, running from 447-527).
